Caravan & Motorhome FAQ’s – Servicing
How often should my caravan or motorhome be serviced?
We recommend annual servicing and habitation inspections to help maintain safety, reliability and identify potential issues before they become costly repairs.
What is a habitation check?
A habitation check is a detailed inspection of the living accommodation and onboard systems within a caravan or motorhome. This includes gas, electrical, water and safety systems, along with damp testing and appliance checks.
What is the difference between a caravan service and a habitation check?
A habitation check focuses on the living area and onboard systems, whereas a caravan service also includes checks to towing-related components such as brakes, hitch assembly, tyres and running gear.
How long does a habitation check take?
Most habitation checks take between 2 and 4 hours, depending on the size and condition of the vehicle.
Caravan & Motorhome FAQ’s -Damp Testing & Gas Safety
How often should damp testing be carried out?
We recommend annual damp testing as part of your regular maintenance programme. Early detection can prevent expensive structural repairs.
What damp readings are acceptable?
As a general guide, readings below 15% are considered normal. Readings between 15% and 20% may require monitoring, while readings above 20% often indicate moisture ingress that should be investigated further.
How often should my gas system be checked?
We recommend annual gas safety inspections to ensure appliances, pipework and safety systems remain in good working order.
What is a gas soundness test?
A gas soundness test checks the integrity of the LPG system and helps identify leaks within the pipework, fittings and appliances.
Do you test all gas appliances?
Yes. We inspect and test appliances such as hobs, ovens, heaters and water heaters where fitted.
